Crepax dressed Valentina as a contemporary woman, attentive to fashion as a reflection of personality. Moreover, being a photographer, the world of fashion has always been present in his stories. By reflecting the habits and customs of Italian women, Valentina became a witness of her time. His stories track the evolution of fashion not only in Italy but also in France.
To dress Valentina, Crepax drew inspiration from the pages of Elle and Vogue or explored his wife’s wardrobe. Even in stories set in the past, the fashion of the era is faithfully reproduced — from nineteenth-century Gothic novels to twentieth-century erotic tales, and the adventurous narratives of other heroines he created.
Crepax’s relationship with fashion did not end there, as he also collaborated with several Italian designers, including Krizia.
